Skeletown

Bandcamp Boneyard 2026-08-07

I wish I had watched Spanish horror-comedy The Day of the Beast earlier in life so I could have realized that my lifelong dream is to be a guy in a grotty record shop popping metal cassettes into the shop's sound system for you to check out. It's a Bandcamp Friday, and this is about as close as I can get.

Today's theme: playing Dungeons & Dragons in a wood-paneled basement.

Dusqk - Lost Sanctuary & Sanctuary OS Something of a curveball to start off. I've been doing more programming than usual lately1 and I've found spinning these records gives me the right vibes to get in the zone. I can't pick out a single track to highlight from either, I just start the albums up and let 'em play. Those PSX-style tunes just carry me right off.

Lynx - Trinity of Suns It took a while for me to gel with this one, but Island Universe got its hooks in me and turned me on to the rest of the album. Oppressive Season and the title track have since made it onto my playlist. Not as metal as I usually look for on Bandcamp but has the sound I'm looking for nonetheless.

Green Lung - Woodland Rites Heavy, fuzzy, doomy2. Woodland Rites into Let the Devil In is great and convinced me to pick this one up. Call of the Coven's also worth checking out. Hard occult rock, what's not to like.

Skull Servant - Seven Trumpets No way I wasn't grabbing this album after hearing Sepulchre of Barbarians. I wish I liked Erecting Ziggurats Beneath the Dark Sun more than I do, but the title track is another reason to check this one out.

Earth Tongue - Dungeon Vision I was on the fence about picking up this album. My first impressions were that it's a little too frenetic to be general listening for me but it's grown on me since. The title track is really the only one I've come to grips with but it's a good one.

Shaboozey - The Outlaw Cherie Lee and Other Western Tales I'm glad this album came out in time for this Bandcamp Friday. A lot of good tracks, including Til Sunday, High Noon, and Lone Survivor. I knew from my first listen that this is the kind of album that's going to get me through something.3

  1. Watch this space.

  2. I don't actually know what doom metal is and at this point I'm afraid to ask.

  3. In a similar vein to how when I was having trouble putting together a new PC last year I reached for CAM GIRL's Flesh & Chrome
