Today's theme: slim pickings (not for lack of good music, but because I'm moderating how many albums I pick up).

Green Lung - Necropolitan: If there was going to be one album I pick up, it's this one. A wonderfully madcap title track hooked me immediately, with a classic heavy metal "ough!". I don't like Black Magick Radio as much as I feel like I should, but Dance to the Grave has grown on me, Evil in this House hits, Alostrael (Be My Babalon) has been something of a sleeper hit with me, To the Gallows Born is a banger to end the album on. Overall very solid, and hits the spooky season theme pretty well.

Bonus Round Early Moods - Ready For The Grave: October's pick from The Hard Stuff music club, which is apparently going away after this month. I suspected Bandcamp's music clubs weren't going to be popular enough to sustain but it's still a shame to see them go. The Hard Stuff introduced me to some great albums, especially NITE's Cult of the Serpent Sun.12 Anyway, Ready For The Grave is a decent album to go out on. I haven't had much of a chance to get familiar with it, but it's solid heavy metal. I suspect I'll be listening to it a fair amount.

  1. Which will forever be locked in battle with Creeper's Sanguivore II: The Mistress of Death for the title of my album of 2025. Cult of the Serpent Sun would have stronger claim if I'd actually listened to it in 2025 but it's really good.↩

  2. My album of 2024 was Judas Priest's Invincible Shield, if anyone cares.↩
